Colour experiments – Embers

I did my first acrylic painting in nearly ten years today. It’s not much, but it is finished.

Embers, Acrylic on board, approx. 300 x 300 mm.

Hmm, jpegs certainly can’t handle reds very well. This is rather more orange than it appears in this piccy. That and the poor lighting make for a pretty poor photo. Apologies.

Anyways, I didn’t know what I was going to paint when I started and it just happened. I wanted to play with colour graduation (but then I always do :D) and decided to go with the yellows through to red. I also wanted to play with thick paint, something I’ve never really done before (I’m too much of a stinge). It was fun, and I like the glow.

Ooh, and the day is not over…I might be able to do something else. What an odd concept 😀

Nutty
(I did something, finally)

  1. I don't know why you say "It's not much" — I think it's very cool! I love the colours — even if they aren't true to life because of photography challenges (to which I can totally relate!)

Such vibrance! I beg you to do more in acrylic!

  5. Wow! It looks like the picture is glowing, that is very very cool! I cannot for the life of me to convince myself to do thick paint in acrylic, I keep thinking "but then I will run out and will need to buy MORE paint". I might have to reconsider my approach now.

  6. It came out very pretty, it actually looks like it's glowing. I myself haven't painted in forever, I think you've inspired me!

  7. Beautiful.
I find that the light affects reds more than any other color when I am trying to photograph things.

  8. Wonderful!!

It turned out beautifully! I love the graduated colours. Did you start with the lightest first?

  9. Oooh! I love it! The colors and textures. Really looks great.

  10. This is gorgeous!! Really gives the feeling of embers sparking off a fire at night.

  14. Love the colours and well done for using "thick paint". That's something I plan to try one day – need to get some decent paint first!
