Pen

I had the wonderful opportunity of painting a friend’s dog in September. It was a commissioned portrait and Pen is a gorgeous doggy (yes, I’m a doggy girl).

I was fortunate to be able to work from a photograph by Russell Millard, a professional photographer in Adelaide. Lovely images certainly contribute to a good final painting and credit is owed to Russell for capturing Pen and her gorgeous eyes.

Pen is mostly black and white with some hints of ginger and as she was sitting on polished floorboards. As I never use black in my painting and knew I would be using a lot of Payne’s Grey (a very deep grey-blue, one of my favourites), I decided to work on an orange background. Orange is opposite to blue and I knew the background would emphasize Pen’s wonderfully blue eyes, but during painting, that orange was very, very strong ๐Ÿ˜€

And the final piece again…

I am so happy with this! Many thanks to Pen’s Mum for giving me the opportunity to paint her gorgeous puppy. And, hey, look everyone, I can do pet portraits! And I’m available for commission ๐Ÿ˜€ Contact me now to paint your gorgeous loved one.

I’ll be sharing this with Paint Party Friday later this week, so don’t forget to drop by and see the great artists over there (and I was featured at PPF last week! I am so honoured ๐Ÿ˜€ ).

Next month I will be appearing at the Goodwood Art House Marketplace, so those of you in Adelaide, do please drop by, I am crazily creating in the lead up to the day. My exhibition is still available at Artisan Gallery, 1099 South Road, Melrose Park, so do drop in there to see the paintings (most of which won’t be at the market, so this is an opportunity that won’t be readily available again soon).

It has been a busy year!

Best wishes,
Liz
